Connecting to Lag B'omer
By Sara Debbie Gutfreund One of the most fascinating traits of scientists, artists or really experts in any field is how enthralled they are with their subject. And when you are so curious about the world around you, you cannot possibly be bored. Ever. | | Transformation Through Ambition
Sefirat HaOmer, Part IV
By Shimona Tzukernik My resolve and steadfast adherence to a goal is no guarantee of making it up the mountain. If anything, relying solely on myself compromises the very foundation of my endeavors. Buying in to the fact that the course of my life is a product exclusively of my desire, my thought patterns and the determination to see them actualized is arrogant. It’s also dangerous. Unmitigated ambition causes pain and damage... | | Insights | | To Be a Sun or a Black Hole?

By Yanki Tauber We all appreciate a statement like “There’s always a second chance.” It fits quite nicely on the December 31 page of an Inspirational Sayings Calendar. But how does it mesh with real life? | | Poems About Spirituality | | | Soul Retrieval

the smoldering embers of your soul

Editor's Note:
Dear Reader,
Just when the after-effects of a week of matzah are starting to wear off, we have Pesach Sheini, the “Second Passover,” celebrated this Wednesday. Breathe. No cleaning involved. No Seders. OK, we do eat some matzah, but along with the pasta or sandwich!
Historically, the Second Passover was an opportunity for those who were not able to bring the Paschal Offering to the Temple on Passover to bring their offering a month later. It’s the “second chance” holiday.
How often do we refuse to do the right thing because it’s “too late”? It is easy to feel that if we missed that deadline or opportunity, that there is no longer any point in trying. But Judaism teaches us to find the beauty and lesson in any situation we find ourselves in and to figure out different paths to our goals.
The process is as important as the destination. So even if we weren’t able to do the right thing at the right time, we have to keep trying; for the second time around (or third, fourth, fifth…) not only can get us to the destination, but will teach us invaluable lessons.
To rephrase a bumper sticker lingo I recently saw, you can feel that every rose in life has a thorn, or you can see how even thorns have roses!
Enjoy your week and your second chances in life!

My husband had asked me a few weeks before my birthday what I wanted. Not really needing anything in particular, I smiled and said "nothing" telling him that being married to him was all I wanted. I was trying to be sweet...
